Love & Lookouts Along the Mississippi

It’s wedding season! And it’s summer, of course, which means that nearly every weekend is spent traveling for some reason or another. Tyler (my boyfriend, who will make an appearance in many blog posts & photos) and I were able to go to our first wedding together last weekend to celebrate his friend Kyle (and wife Samantha’s) marriage in Prairie du Chien!

I have no conscious recollection of ever visiting Prairie du Chien (I make this concession a lot to acknowledge that childhood Chelsey may have visited these places but retain no memory of them), so I was excited to make the most of our approximately 24-hour visit.

The drive was a 3-hour straight-shot from our home in Milwaukee. For some reason, AT&T always seems to forget that people live in and visit southwestern Wisconsin, and I had no cell phone service virtually the entire time. What at first seemed to be an inconvenience actually provided a great opportunity to take a small break from social media, though, so I don’t have any further complaints.

The wedding ceremony was small but perfect and took place at La Riviere Park, which is a beautiful hidden stretch of tall prairie grasses just outside of town. The bride rode in with her dad on a vintage Harley-Davidson motorcycle!

The reception took place in town (within walking distance from our hotel, #winning) at Huckleberry’s Restaurant. We had a great time inside, but meanwhile, it started raining, then pouring, then storming, then evolving to the point where the town was issued a severe thunderstorm warning! Thankfully it was warm and made for a fun (and wet) sprint back to our hotel (AmeriVu Bluffview Inn & Suites) in the rain!

Tyler was an A+ boyfriend and booked the king deluxe whirlpool suite! I’m just happy as long as a hotel offers free continental breakfast (it did).

Before driving back home on Sunday, we took a detour to Wyalusing State Park! We spent almost an hour hiking, despite the post-rain mud and mosquitoes, and then stopped at the Henneger Point outlook to see the river and the bluffs and, let me tell you, they are breathtaking… especially when there is fog hovering just above them! It was incredible. It is such a scenic part of Wisconsin and I would love to come back and spend more time here!

I purchased my dress just days before on-sale from Charlotte Russe (I found it online and drove to the mall immediately after work the same day) and my shoes are Candie’s brand and were purchased at Kohl’s!
