Devils Lake State Park is one of Wisconsin’s most breathtaking natural wonders and generates the most visitor revenue of any Wisconsin state park, meaning that it is also the most trafficked among them. While still an incredible place to visit, the beaches, trails, and campsites can easily become crowded on warm summer days, weekends, and other popular travel times.
I recently discovered another Wisconsin state park that, though quite different than Devils Lake, still offers some of its best amenities and incredible beauty without the crowds. Hartman Creek State Park is located in Waupaca County and is safely out of the top five most-visited state parks in Wisconsin It has nicely maintained trails that weave through beautiful forestland, a cozy set of campsites, and a beach complete with ice cream shack (not pictured).
Tyler and I stopped here just for the day to go hiking on our way home from Wisconsin Rapids, but it is definitely a place I’d visit again, even for an overnight stay. The park is located two hours from Milwaukee and just over an hour from Green Bay.
Which Wisconsin state park do you like to visit to get “off the beaten path?”
